We first approached English Open BJJ at one of their events after noticing that their existing website was hard to navigate and poorly optimised for mobile. For an event series of that scale, the online experience needed to be much smoother for competitors, coaches and spectators.
We rebuilt the site from scratch using custom code, focusing on a clean structure that is easy to use on phones as well as desktops. All of the key information about divisions, schedules, rules and registration is now presented in a way that competitors can quickly scan and act on.
As part of the project we custom trained an AI chatbot on both the IBJJF rule set and the English Open specific rules. Competitors can ask questions about points, penalties and event procedures and get accurate, consistent answers. The chatbot also helps with practical details such as directions to the venue and links to registration pages.
We also built a bespoke web app that lets athletes enter their height, weight and age to find the correct division to compete in. This removes a lot of uncertainty and reduces support overhead for the organisers. The new site now attracts thousands of clicks per month and has seen a major spike in traffic since launch, supporting ongoing growth of the event.
